Tragedy struck in Sagamore Hills last Wednesday when gunfire erupted inside a vehicle, leaving one man dead and another wounded in what authorities are investigating as a homicide.
Adam Lempner, 31, of Sagamore Hills, died early Thursday morning at an Akron hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in an incident that occurred near the intersection of Shearer Road and Carlin Road around 5:30 p.m. on May 14th.
Investigators report that Lempner entered the rear seat of a car occupied by two young men from South Euclid, ages 20 and 18. Multiple shots were fired inside the vehicle before witnesses observed the two occupants pulling Lempner from the car and driving away from the scene.
Responding to 911 calls from neighbors who heard gunshots, Sagamore Hills police officers arrived to find Lempner critically injured. The vehicle was later discovered at North Coast Behavioral Health in Northfield after staff reported someone with gunshot wounds in their parking lot.
Police determined that the 20-year-old occupant had also been shot during the encounter. He was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center where he remains in stable condition.
The incident prompted a multi-agency response, with Northfield Village Police Department initially called to assist before being redirected to the behavioral health facility. There, officers helped detain one subject while securing the secondary scene.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is assisting local authorities with processing evidence, including the vehicle, which has been impounded for forensic examination.
Sagamore Hills Police Chief David Hayes confirmed the investigation is ongoing but has not released information about potential motives or whether arrests have been made in connection with the homicide.
