Bitcoin Scam Costs Solon Woman $22,000
A 70-year-old Solon woman fell victim to a sophisticated scam on May 9, losing $22,000 after receiving a call from someone claiming to represent Huntington Bank. The caller convinced the woman that her account was compromised and instructed her to withdraw funds and deposit them into a Bitcoin ATM at a local gas station. Solon detectives are investigating the incident.
Community Center Altercation Leads to Arrest
A 70-year-old Solon man was arrested at the Solon Community Center on May 18 following a disturbance involving gym equipment. According to police, Joseph Wang became irate when an 18-year-old female gym member asked him to wipe down equipment. Wang allegedly knocked over equipment and pushed the woman, resulting in charges of assault and disorderly conduct.
Domestic Violence Arrest on Pettibone Road
Officers responded to a domestic dispute on May 14 at a residence in the 35000 block of Pettibone Road. Police determined that a 24-year-old Solon man, Joseph Jayme, was the primary aggressor in a physical altercation with his 56-year-old father. Jayme was arrested and charged with domestic violence.
OVI Arrests Throughout the Week
Several individuals faced charges for operating vehicles under the influence in Solon:
A 69-year-old Solon woman was stopped on May 9 for driving without lights on SOM Center Road. Jennifer Brush failed sobriety tests and was charged with OVI after refusing to complete a breath test.
Jerome R. Williams, a 48-year-old Shaker Heights man, was arrested on May 11 after crossing the center line on Aurora Road. Officers observed a 2-year-old standing unrestrained in the backseat and suspected marijuana in the vehicle. Williams faces charges of OVI, driving in marked lanes, child restraint violations, and child endangering.
A father-son duo was found apparently passed out in a parked vehicle on Sherwood Drive on May 12. Terry Wiseman, 53, of Streetsboro was charged with physical control of a motor vehicle under the influence and drug paraphernalia. His passenger, Michael Wiseman, 28, of Northfield was cited for drug abuse instruments and had an outstanding felony warrant.
Clarissa Alexander, 39, of Streetsboro was arrested on May 16 after crashing her BMW on Aurora Road. She was charged with OVI and improper handling of a firearm in a vehicle after officers discovered a loaded pistol.
A 21-year-old Chagrin Falls woman, Tanner Kuhen, was stopped on May 17 for weaving outside marked lanes on US 422. Kuhen faces charges of OVI, improper handling of a firearm, and marked lanes violations.
John W. Bryant, 44, of Cleveland was found parked partially in a travel lane on US 422 on May 17. Despite registering 0.000% blood alcohol content, Bryant was charged with OVI pending drug test results and open container violations after officers discovered what appeared to be a glass of wine in the vehicle.
