Macedonia Police Department officers handled numerous incidents throughout the past week, with arrests made in cases ranging from impaired driving to theft and fraud investigations.
Impaired Driving Arrests
May 20 – Interstate 480 Will Allen Heltzel of Kent faces multiple charges including operating a vehicle under the influence, driving under suspension, and improperly stopping on a roadway. Officers discovered Heltzel slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle still in drive on the highway. Police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia during the investigation. Heltzel declined chemical testing.
May 16 – Highland Road Adolphus J. Perkins of Cleveland was arrested for OVI following reports of erratic driving on State Route 8. The suspect acknowledged consuming alcohol and experienced balance difficulties during field testing, citing a medical condition affecting his mobility.
May 20 – Interstate 271 A pursuit was terminated when a silver Hyundai fled after being stopped for traveling 88 mph in a 65 mph zone. The vehicle escaped onto State Route 8 at high speed, and officers could not identify the license plate.
Theft Investigations
May 17 – Walmart Parking Lot Christopher Arnett Shirley of Maple Heights and Latina Shufray Summers-Shirley of Maple Heights are charged in connection with stealing a purse from a motorized shopping cart. Security footage captured the couple taking the brown leather purse after an elderly customer accidentally left it behind. The stolen purse was later returned to police.
May 19 – Walmart Store Multiple theft cases emerged from the Macedonia Commons location. A juvenile employee was arrested for stealing $298.19 worth of merchandise across eight separate incidents. Additionally, Melanie Dawnette Spears of Akron was arrested for theft after scanning only one item while concealing multiple others worth $32.22.
May 17 – Bristol Court A SCCY pistol valued at $500 was reported stolen from a vehicle. The case remains under investigation.
May 15 – TJ Maxx Loss prevention reported theft of Nike children’s clothing totaling $132.91. The suspect was identified through previous incidents at the store.
Financial Crimes
May 14 – Forest Point Drive A resident discovered unauthorized access to multiple accounts including investment, phone, and email services. The victim prevented financial losses by stopping transactions as they occurred.
May 12 – Ledge Acres Road An unauthorized transfer of $5,121 was reported from a local resident’s savings account. The financial institution launched an investigation with reimbursement expected within eight days.
Additional Incidents
May 19 – Walmart Brian Daniel Davis of Akron received a citation for disorderly conduct after urinating on a vehicle in the store parking lot.
May 15 – Interstate 480 A 2019 Chevrolet Silverado worth over $30,000 was reported stolen after the owner left it disabled on the highway and returned to find it missing.
May 14 – Walmart A methamphetamine pipe was discovered on store shelves. The used pipe was collected as evidence while police review surveillance footage.
