Public Safety Leadership Changes

New Police Leadership Team Announced
Parma Heights has made significant changes to its police department leadership structure. Chief Steven Greene, with over 34 years of experience with the department, has been promoted to lead the force. Greene previously served as a founding member of the PACT community policing unit and held roles with the Southwest Enforcement Bureau.

Captain Michael Luzniak has been elevated to his new position after securing close to $400,000 in grant funding for the department. His efforts brought body-worn cameras and a K-9 unit to the department for the first time.

Sergeant Anthony D’Onofrio, who joined the department in 2012, has been promoted and holds certification as a level four crash reconstructionist.

New K-9 Officer Joins Force
The department welcomed K-9 Officer Xany, a 3-year-old German Shepherd who began training with handler Officer Michael Percun on May 19.

Fire Department Expansion

Major Equipment Upgrades Underway
The fire department has hired seven new firefighters since 2022, with Mayor Marie Gallo implementing pre-hiring for expected retirements to control overtime costs. Four new vehicles have been purchased, including two ambulances, a fire engine, and a ladder truck.

A new 2025 Rosenbauer Mid-Mount 100′ Platform Ladder Truck is expected for delivery later this year. The ladder can flow 2,000 gallons of water per minute and will enhance responses to high-rise senior living buildings and apartment complexes.

Infrastructure Improvements

$3.5 Million Street Program Continues
Since 2022, approximately $3.5 million in street improvements have been completed on 33 streets throughout the city. Streets scheduled for resurfacing or repair in 2025 include Berkshire Road, Colebrook Drive, Dellrose Drive, Elsetta Avenue, Glendora Lane, Mallo Place, Roxbury Road, Sherborn Road, Stoneham Road, Westborough Road, Lotusdale Drive, Ackley Boulevard, and Wickfield Drive.

Memorial Day Celebration

FOX 8’s Suzanne Stratford To Headline Ceremony
WJW-TV-8 General and Special Assignment Reporter Suzanne Stratford will deliver the keynote address at the 158th Annual Memorial Day ceremony. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, on the lawn of Parma-South Presbyterian Church at 6155 Pearl Road. Stratford is an eight-time Emmy winner and Persian Gulf War veteran who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Community Projects

New Library Construction Progressing
Construction continues on a new 22,000-square-foot Cuyahoga County Public Library branch in the Greenbrier Commons complex. The facility will feature a reading garden, play area, community plaza, and outdoor patio area. Completion is anticipated by the end of 2025.

Senior Center Serves Growing Population
The Senior Center welcomed 552 new members in 2024 and served 16,245 congregate meals plus 16,415 home-delivered meals. The center received a grant for a new Ford E350 14-passenger senior bus, with the $148,854 cost covered 80% by grant funding.

Safety Recognition

City Ranks In Top 10 For Safety
Safewise released their 2025 Ohio Safest Cities Report, placing Parma Heights in the top 10. The recognition comes as the city maintains fully staffed and well-equipped police and fire departments.
