Macedonia Walmart Hit by $248 Shoplifting Operation

Macedonia police arrested two suspects after a brazen shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Macedonia Commons Boulevard turned into a traffic chase. Lamont Edward Wells was charged with theft after stealing 25 items valued at $248.88, while his accomplice Linda Carol McCollum was cited for running a red light during their escape attempt. Loss prevention tracked the pair to their vehicle, leading to a traffic stop where police also discovered stolen frozen seafood from Giant Eagle without receipts.

Home Depot Theft Nets Suspect $306 in Building Materials

A Sagamore Hills man walked out of Macedonia’s Home Depot with $306 worth of flooring and drywall mud without paying, police report. Michael Robert DeMore, 33, was cooperative with loss prevention and admitted he needed the materials for construction work. He was arrested and charged with first-degree misdemeanor theft.

Walmart Shoplifter Flees Store, Caught in Traffic Stop

A Bedford man’s attempt to steal over $300 in Walmart merchandise ended in arrest after he fled the store and was caught during a traffic stop on Freeway Drive. Jason Frank Lanese had been switching price tags to pay less for items before loss prevention intervened. He told officers he was struggling financially and wanted to buy items for his children. All merchandise was recovered.

Driver Found Unconscious in I-480 Traffic Lane Arrested for OVI

A dangerous situation unfolded on Interstate 480 when a Kent man was found unconscious behind the wheel in an active traffic lane with his car still in drive. Will Allen Heltzel required assistance from Twinsburg and Macedonia police to safely remove him from the roadway. Field sobriety tests revealed impairment, and he refused breath and urine tests. Police discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia during a vehicle search. Heltzel faces charges for OVI, driving under suspension and impeding traffic.

High-Speed Pursuit on I-271 Ends When Suspect Vanishes

May 20

A traffic stop for excessive speed turned into a brief high-speed chase when a silver Hyundai accelerated to dangerous speeds on Interstate 271 and State Route 8. The vehicle was initially clocked at 88 mph in a 65 mph zone before the driver fled at even higher speeds. Macedonia police terminated the pursuit for public safety after losing sight of the suspect vehicle.

$13,820 Check Fraud Scheme Targets Macedonia Jeweler

May 22

Sophisticated fraudsters targeted Don Basch Jewelers on Fairlane Drive, successfully cashing two fake checks totaling $13,820.55 in Cincinnati and Indianapolis. The criminals forged checks made out to Hendry Elizandro Temayo Pool and Ronald Josua Reyes Roque, but bank officials identified multiple red flags including misspelled company names and forged signatures. A third fraudulent check was blocked in Toledo when a alert teller became suspicious. Huntington Bank’s fraud department is investigating the multi-state scheme.

Family Theft Case: Daughter Accused of Stealing $4,150 from Mother

May 22

A Macedonia family dispute escalated into theft charges when a mother reported her daughter stole thousands in cash, jewelry and electronics. Carol Perkins Treadwell told police that Jacqueline Emma Treadwell, 29, and her boyfriend took $450 in cash and coins, $3,200 worth of jewelry, and two Samsung tablets while she was away for a week. The mother suspects the items were sold for drug money and plans to press charges while beginning eviction proceedings.
