A Cleveland man was arrested after police discovered a loaded 9mm handgun during a routine traffic stop on Cochran Road. Brandon Berry, 34, initially denied having weapons when questioned by the officer who stopped his gray Jeep Cherokee for expired plates. When Berry learned his vehicle would be towed due to plates that had been expired for over seven months, he admitted to having the gun in his center console. The weapon contained one round in the chamber and 16 rounds in the magazine. Berry was cited for improper handling of a firearm and expired plates before his vehicle was towed. May 29, 10:24 PM

Domestic Violence Son Threatens Mother During Drinking Dispute

Family Argument Escalates to Criminal Charges

Police arrested a 25-year-old man after he allegedly threatened to knock out his mother during a heated argument about his drinking. Tyrone Coleman Jr. had been drinking when his mother confronted him about his behavior. Coleman responded by breaking a security device in their Monroe Court home and slamming doors before making the threatening statement. He was arrested for fourth-degree misdemeanor domestic violence and held at Solon Jail for bond. May 29, 11:37 PM

Domestic Violence Case Prohibits Firearm Possession

A Cleveland man with a pending domestic violence case was arrested after admitting to having a handgun during a traffic stop at Circle K. Jonathon Phillips, 21, was pulled over for expired plates and a suspended license when he revealed the weapon in his center console. Due to his pending domestic violence case, Phillips is legally prohibited from possessing firearms. The handgun contained 12 rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber. Phillips was charged with improper handling of a firearm, expired plates, and driving under suspension. May 31, 1:06 PM

Two Women Abandoned After Akron Trip Goes Wrong

Two Akron women were cited for drug paraphernalia after being found smoking from glass pipes in a backyard on Edgemoor Avenue. Amy Owens, 29, and Cassandra Wright, 26, told officers they had been brought to Solon by a male friend but were abandoned at a gas station after an argument. They walked to his residence seeking a ride back to Akron but found him not home. Owens was found with a crack pipe and three white rock-like objects suspected to be crack cocaine. Wright had crack pipes in her pocket and bra during a search by a female officer. Both were cited and waited in the police lobby for rides. The suspected cocaine will be tested and may result in additional charges. May 29, 6:36 PM

Giant Eagle Shoplifter Arrested for Self-Checkout Scam

Nearly $200 in Unpaid Items Lead to Jail

A Cleveland woman was arrested after store loss prevention caught her failing to scan nearly $200 worth of items during self-checkout at Giant Eagle on Aurora Road. Jayana Stokes, 28, reportedly scanned only some items while attempting to steal $199.39 worth of merchandise. She was arrested and taken to Solon Jail after Giant Eagle pressed charges. Stokes was also issued a criminal trespass warning prohibiting her return to the store. May 30, 3:24 PM

Intoxicated Mother Leaves Baby in Running Car During Pickup

Nearly Three Times Legal Limit With Children Involved

A Cleveland mother was arrested for extreme intoxication after leaving her one-year-old child alone in a running car while attempting to pick up her five-year-old from Creative Playrooms. Staff called police when Anaia Skinner, 25, arrived visibly intoxicated to collect her child. Officers found Skinner lying on the floor inside the building while her infant remained unattended in the running car. After medical clearance, field sobriety tests confirmed impairment. Skinner registered 0.293% blood alcohol content – nearly three times the legal limit. She was charged with OVI, prohibited BAC, and endangering children. The children’s grandmother took custody while Child and Family Services was notified. May 30, 6:45 PM

Local Woman Loses Over $4,000 in Fake Celebrity Scam

Carrie Underwood Impersonator Bilks Victim Through Social Media

A 22-year-old Solon woman was scammed out of more than $4,000 by someone impersonating country music star Carrie Underwood on social media. The elaborate scheme began when the victim contacted what she believed was Underwood’s official TikTok account. The conversation moved to WhatsApp where the scammer offered VIP concert passes for $599.49. After initially disputing the charge and receiving a refund, the victim continued communicating with the fake celebrity. She then received emails from a fictitious delivery company demanding $1,500 for a VIP package delivery fee. The victim continued sending payments via Apple Pay until total losses reached $4,192.58. The Detective Bureau is investigating the sophisticated online fraud. May 31, 4:06 PM
