Summit County officials are joining forces to help residents avoid online scams and navigate digital devices safely.
County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich, Sheriff Kandy Fatheree and Councilwoman Bethany McKenney will host an “Outsmart the Scam Workshop” on Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Barberton Middle School.
The free event breaks participants into three skill-based groups from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Beginners can attend “Digital Basics,” while intermediate users join “Elevate Your Digital Skills” and advanced participants explore “Exploring Advanced Tech.”
Digital navigators from the Akron Metropolitan Housing Association will lead sessions with speakers from Fairlawn Gig and the Summit County Office of Information Technology. A question-and-answer session runs from 11:30 a.m. to noon for one-on-one help.
The workshop takes place at Barberton Middle School on 4th Street NW. Pre-registration isn’t required but gets participants entered in a drawing for four Akron Zoo tickets.
