Looking for an interactive historical reenactment event in Ohio? Don’t miss The Taste of History 2025, happening Friday, June 13 (9 AM – 5 PM) and Saturday, June 14 (9 AM – 6 PM) at Sandstone Village, located at 763 Milan Avenue, Amherst, OH 44001.

Free parking and shuttle service from Amherst Junior High School (548 Milan Ave)


What Is The Taste of History?

This free timeline reenactment event showcases the foods, rations, and cultures that fueled soldiers throughout history. It’s hosted in partnership with the Military History Preservation Group, the Lorain County Visitors Bureau, and the Amherst Historical Society.

In 2024, over 3,500 people and nearly 200 reenactors attended—2025 is expected to be even bigger!


What You’ll See, Do, and Taste

Field Kitchens from Every Era
More than a dozen authentic field kitchens—including one from the Ohio Army National Guard—will compete and serve samples of historical military meals.
Sample hours: Noon to 4 PM daily (with donation)

Live Reenactments & Displays

  • Timeline includes the Hundred Years’ War through the Global War on Terror
  • Exhibits on military life, the home front, and camp followers
  • Static displays and shooting demonstrations throughout the day

Family-Friendly Activities & Vendors

  • Hands-on kids’ activities
  • Military surplus vendors and memorabilia
  • A unique opportunity to explore history through taste, sound, and sight

Who Can Participate?

This inclusive event welcomes:

  • Military reenactors (all nations and time periods)
  • Camp followers, civilians, and home front interpreters
  • Field kitchens representing historical cuisine
  • Vendors offering military-related items or educational products
