The Village of Boston Heights is encouraging residents to consider running for four Village Council seats coming up for renewal in November while the community celebrates new amenities and infrastructure improvements.
Interested candidates should contact the Summit County Board of Elections at 470 Grant Street in Akron or visit during business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Council President Dave Maccarone said the board staff “are incredibly friendly and would gladly guide you through the entire process.”
The village is adding eight new pickleball courts at Matthews-Thomas Park, with construction beginning in early July and completion expected by fall. Mayor Ron Antal said pickleball “has quickly become one of the fastest-growing sports in the country” and residents will have access to a top-notch facility.
A major infrastructure project also launches this month with the Summit Connects fiber network. Construction begins June 23 on Olde 8 Road, moving south to village hall then continuing to State Route 303. The 130-mile high-speed fiber network will connect all 31 Summit County communities, initially serving police, fire and EMS services with residential options expected in mid-2026.

The village completed demolition of the former Norwood Inn with EPA clearance. A Sheetz gas and convenience store is planned as the first tenant on about one-third of the property.
Summer programming at Matthews-Thomas Park includes guided nature walks June 28 focusing on pond life and August 30 for bug hunting, both from 10 to 11 a.m. The community yard sale is set for July 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wendy’s officially opened May 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Residents can pick up free Jr. Frosty key tags at Village Hall while supplies last.
Village Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed June 19 for Juneteenth and July 4. Council meetings are scheduled for June 10 and 24, July 8 and 22, and August 12 and 26 at 7 p.m.
