Summit County officials invite residents to a hands-on digital safety workshop in Barberton to help prevent online scams.

Barberton, OH — Summit County officials are teaming up to help residents fight back against online fraud with a free, interactive event this weekend focused on digital safety and scam prevention.

On Saturday, June 14, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, County Executive Ilene Shapiro, Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich, Sheriff Kandy Fatheree, and County Councilwoman Bethany McKenney will host the Outsmart the Scam Workshop at Barberton Middle School (477 4th Street NW, Barberton).

The two-hour event includes three tailored breakout sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, allowing attendees to learn based on their comfort level with technology:

Each session will be led by digital navigators from the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA), with support from Fairlawn Gig and the Summit County Office of Information Technology. After the sessions, an optional Q&A from 11:30 AM to Noon will give attendees time for personalized, one-on-one support.
