Hudson officials announced a $3 million pedestrian and traffic safety project scheduled to begin in 2025, featuring significant upgrades to pedestrian connectivity throughout the city. The comprehensive infrastructure project will include a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail along Boston Mills Road, a 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along Lake Forest Drive, and a complete realignment of the Boston Mills Road and Lake Forest Drive intersection.

The Boston Mills Road trail will receive $2.5 million in funding and extend from the existing asphalt path west of Omni Lake Parkway eastward to Lake Forest Drive. The trail will feature an asphalt surface with boardwalk sections and a bridge along the north side of Boston Mills Road. Additional improvements include parking lot upgrades at Boston Mills Park, new crosswalks with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at Westpoint Drive and Ridgewood Boulevard, storm sewer upgrades, and minor tree clearing.

The Lake Forest Drive sidewalk portion will cost $550,000 and run along the east side of Lake Forest Drive between Boston Mills Road and Essex Road. The intersection realignment will eliminate the current skewed angle and create a traditional 90-degree intersection to reduce crossing distances and improve sightlines for pedestrians and drivers.

Hudson secured a $250,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to support construction of the trail and bridge over Lake Forest Drive. The project is part of Hudson’s broader Pedestrian Connectivity Program, which aims to link neighborhoods, parks, downtown and schools through a safe pedestrian network.

The city plans to bid both components together in 2025 to obtain competitive pricing. Once bids are received, final funding and contract approval will go before Hudson City Council. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2025.
