Rolling Blackouts Possible in Akron
The city of Akron announced that a transformer failed last evening in the Goodyear Heights neighborhood, and due to ongoing high temperatures, FirstEnergy is bringing in a mobile substation for repairs. Rolling blackouts may occur in the impacted area on 90-minute intervals and could continue for up to 12 hours, depending on system demand and repair progress.
The rolling blackouts would specifically affect areas around Brittain Road and Eastwood Avenue, including Brittain Road between Evans Avenue and East Market Street, and Eastwood Avenue between Arlington Avenue and South Avenue.
FirstEnergy has increased staffing for 24/7 response and is encouraging customers to conserve energy during peak hours. Vulnerable residents are advised to seek cooling centers or stay with family until power is restored.
