Solon Police Bust Undercover Sting, $41K Credit Card Fraud Among Week’s Cases

Weekly roundup of incidents handled by local law enforcement

FINANCIAL CRIMES

June 17 – A 57-year-old Solon man discovered six unauthorized ATM withdrawals totaling $600 from his Key Bank account at a Maple Heights branch in early June. The victim also reported a failed online purchase attempt. Detectives are working to identify the suspect who used the ATM.

June 19 – A 64-year-old Solon man fell victim to a motorcycle scam after listing his Harley Davidson for $15,000 on Cycle Trader in March. The buyer sent an overpayment check for $18,490, then requested a $3,500 refund for the “accidental” overpayment via three Zelle transactions. The original check was later determined fraudulent, and the motorcycle was never picked up.

June 21 – MRI Software on Fountain Parkway reported $41,000 in unauthorized charges on a company credit card. The fraudulent transactions occurred in the Dallas area between June 14-15, while the legitimate cardholder still possessed the physical card. Investigators suspect credit card cloning.

VIOLENT CRIMES

June 18 – Steven Patrick Owens, 41, of Solon, was arrested on SOM Center Road after an undercover operation. An officer posing as a 15-year-old girl online communicated with Owens, who allegedly discussed sexual conduct and arranged to meet for sex. He was charged with Attempted Sexual Conduct with a Minor.

June 18 – A 19-year-old Middleburg Heights man reported being threatened with a gun during a road rage incident on US 422 westbound from Harper Road. The suspect in a black Ford pickup truck allegedly tailgated the victim, drove aggressively, then pointed a gun at him while honking the horn.

June 22 – Hayden Hartman, 32, of Wadsworth, turned himself in on a domestic violence warrant after allegedly pushing and spitting on his 35-year-old fiancée at a residence on Bainbridge Road. The victim sustained visible injuries. Hartman was charged with Domestic Violence and held at Solon Jail.

THEFT

June 19 – Two backpack leaf blowers valued at approximately $720 were stolen from an unattended pickup truck at UH Urgent Care on SOM Center Road. The 55-year-old Cleveland victim was doing landscaping work when the Stihl and Echo blowers were taken.
