Suspect with gun, suicidal threats surrenders after tactical response

Brooklyn police successfully resolved a dangerous armed standoff June 24 after a suspect threatening suicide with a gun surrendered following extensive negotiations.

The incident began at 10:51 a.m. when Brooklyn Police responded to assist Parma Heights Police with locating a Black F-150 pickup truck. Officers found the suspect vehicle crashed at the intersection of Tiedeman Road and Interstate 480.

The suspect driver was reportedly threatening suicide and had a firearm. Police noted the individual had a known history of threatening suicide to law enforcement.

Brooklyn paramedics treated three injured occupants from the other vehicle involved in the crash, who were then transported to a local hospital. The ongoing threat prevented officers from immediately approaching the armored scene.

Crisis negotiators worked for more than four hours attempting to peacefully resolve the situation. The Southwest Enforcement Bureau was called to take over the scene due to the active threat from the suspect.

After approximately four hours of negotiations around 1453 hours, the male suspect exited his vehicle with a gun in his hand and was shot by a tactical officer.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to investigate the officer-involved shooting, which is standard protocol for such incidents.
