Arson Investigation Leads to Evidence Collection

Motel Fire Draws Police Response on State Route 14

Officers responded to a vehicle fire at a Motel 6 on State Route 14 eastbound early Sunday morning, June 8. Upon arrival, police observed flames coming from a large truck’s cab area. Fire and EMS crews were called to the scene.

After extinguishing the blaze, investigators found evidence suggesting someone had attempted to set the truck on fire. Evidence was collected and the arson investigator was notified. The incident remains under investigation.

Weekend Arrests Clear Outstanding Warrants

Multiple suspects were taken into custody on outstanding warrants over the weekend:

  • Saturday: A man was arrested at a Ravenna location on Infirmary Road for an active warrant through the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. The subject was booked into Portage County Jail.
  • Friday: Police responded to suspicious activity in the Streetsboro Plaza parking lot where they identified a subject with an active strangulation warrant through the Portage County Sheriff’s Department. The subject was arrested and transported to jail.
  • Thursday: Officers picked up a woman from Ravenna police on an active misdemeanor warrant. She was taken to jail awaiting her court appearance.

Domestic Violence Charge Filed

Police were called to Ridgeside Court Thursday evening for a domestic violence incident involving a husband and wife. Upon investigation, officers determined charges should be filed. A woman was arrested on a domestic violence charge for knowingly causing physical harm. Neither party had any injuries from the incident, according to police reports.

Traffic Stop Nets Drug Arrest

A routine traffic stop Monday resulted in an arrest for a misdemeanor warrant. Officers stopped a vehicle on State Route 14 near State Route 43 and discovered the driver had an active warrant out of Portage County Sheriff’s Office. The subject was taken into custody without incident.

Disturbance Calls

Officers responded to several disturbance calls throughout the week:

  • Sunday: Police were called to State Route 303 for a disturbance involving a custody exchange. Officers provided assistance when a juvenile initially refused to go with their mother but eventually cooperated.
  • Saturday: A disturbance call at Delores Drive was resolved after officers spoke with all parties and separated them.
  • Friday: Police responded to threatening behavior at a State Route 14 business where a woman was reportedly threatening employees with a vehicle. The woman was located, questioned and released after investigation.

Domestic Disputes Resolved Without Arrests

Two domestic dispute calls were cleared without arrests:

  • Thursday: Officers responded to Opal Court for a domestic dispute where both parties advised no physical contact occurred. The parties separated and the woman was given a courtesy transport to a medical center.
  • Thursday: Police were called to a domestic situation involving a husband and wife on Ridgeside Court. Officers allowed the husband to collect belongings before he left to prevent further arguing. He was advised to contact his attorney regarding divorce proceedings already in progress.

Assault Complaint Declined

Police responded to a Circle K store on State Route 303 Wednesday for a reported disturbance. After completing the investigation, the victim declined to sign an assault complaint against the suspect.
