Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro announced the county’s Transportation Improvement District secured $550,000 in state funding for two major infrastructure projects – $300,000 for a new traffic signal in Stow and $250,000 for an airport access road.

The Stow project will install a traffic signal at the intersection of Seasons Road and Allen Road to handle increased traffic from the expanding Seasons Road Business Park. The area has seen significant development including Western Reserve Hospital’s new health center, Veritiv Packaging facility, and Fogg’s Building Methods warehouse.

“The intersection improvements at Seasons and Allen Roads are essential to supporting the growth we’re seeing in the Seasons Road Business Park,” Stow Mayor John Pribonic said.

The Akron-Canton Airport will use its funding to build an access road extending West Airport Drive for the West Side Hangar Development project. The development includes construction of a 12,000-square-foot hangar designed to generate new revenue through airfield leases, fuel sales and landing fees.

Airport President and CEO Ren Camacho said the funding represents a critical step forward for the $30 million hangar project, which aims to meet high demand for modern hangar space due to increased private and corporate flying.

The airport project has also received $2 million from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources through the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program, plus additional funding from the Department of the Interior and the City of Green.

This marks Summit County’s fourth consecutive year receiving Transportation Improvement District awards and the first time receiving two awards in the same year. Since 2015, the county has secured $4.6 million for 19 local infrastructure projects.
