Summit County Launches Home Modification Program for Older Adults

County Executive Ilene Shapiro announces initiative to help seniors age in place safely

Summit County has unveiled its Older Adult Home Modification Program (OAHMP), designed to help residents 62 and older live safely and independently in their homes as they age.

The program removes barriers that make aging in place difficult by providing home modifications for eligible residents. County Executive Ilene Shapiro’s office announced the initiative as part of Summit County’s broader commitment to becoming an Age-Friendly County.

To qualify for the program, applicants must be Summit County residents, at least 62 years old, and meet specific income requirements. The income guidelines range from $56,200 for single-person households to $105,950 for eight-person households.

The program addresses the growing need for accessible housing modifications as the county’s population ages. Home modifications can include installing ramps, grab bars, stair lifts, and other safety features that allow older adults to remain in their homes rather than move to assisted living facilities.

Residents interested in the program can contact Summit County at 330-643-6519 for additional information and application details. Income limits are subject to change based on federal guidelines.
