The Nordonia Hills Board of Education held its regular meeting on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Northfield Elementary School. The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m. by Vice President Jason Tidmore.
Agenda Modification and Approvals
The board unanimously approved a modification to the agenda, adding two items under the president’s section: an addendum to Treasurer Kyle Keiffer’s current contract and a new five-year contract. Both were approved without opposition.
Board members praised Treasurer Keiffer for his financial leadership, commitment to the district, and community involvement. Keiffer thanked the board, Superintendent Casey Wright, staff, and his family. He also shared that his child will start kindergarten in the district this year, reflecting his confidence in the district’s future.
Superintendent Recommendations
Superintendent Casey Wright presented several routine items for approval, which the board unanimously passed:
-
Three overnight student trips: the high school volleyball team’s summer tournament at Cedar Point Sports Park; the biennial choir trip to New York City for performances and shows; and the annual Dayton performance trip.
-
The 2025–2026 transportation schedule, with authorization for the superintendent to make adjustments.
-
A five-year lease agreement with Bose for high school mailing equipment.
-
Student teaching agreements outlining cooperating teacher stipends.
-
Special education contracts with Monarch School (Jewish Children’s Bureau) and the ESC of Northeast Ohio for visually impaired student services.
-
Renewal of the agreement with Heights Driving School for driver education classes held on school property.
Personnel Approvals
The board approved multiple certified and classified personnel changes, including resignations, new hires—especially in special education—and professional development plans for new teachers. Supplemental contracts for fall sports and music programs were also approved, along with expanded district security duties for an alum and classified staff assignment adjustments.
Treasurer’s Report and Fiscal Year-End Update
Treasurer Kyle Keiffer reported on the district’s financial results for the 2024–2025 fiscal year, which ended with a deficit of $710,000, significantly better than forecasted.
Initial projections in 2022 had estimated a $4.9 million shortfall for the fiscal year. Through staffing adjustments and budget controls, the district reduced the deficit year-over-year.
Keiffer noted a 1.9% revenue increase and stable expenditures. He credited collaboration among the board, administration, staff, and unions for the outcome.
The board approved:
-
A fund transfer from the Class of 2023 to the Class of 2026.
-
Petty cash and change fund authorizations for the 2025–2026 school year.
The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Northfield Elementary School.
