Pepper Pike Police Launch Special Needs Registry Program

Voluntary system helps officers better assist residents with disabilities during emergencies

The Pepper Pike Police Department has launched a new Special Needs Registry to improve emergency response for community members with disabilities and medical conditions.

The voluntary program allows residents to provide officers with important information about themselves or family members, including medical conditions like autism, Alzheimer’s disease or Down syndrome. Participants can also share communication preferences, emergency contacts and strategies that help calm or assist the individual.

Police say the confidential information will be securely stored and accessed only by officers to ensure more effective and respectful responses during emergencies or routine interactions.

Residents can register online at pepperpike.org/2328/Special-Needs-Registry or pick up forms at the police department. Information can be updated at any time, and participation remains completely voluntary.

The registry represents the department’s effort to better serve all community members by understanding their specific needs before emergency situations arise.
