OHSAA Distributes $1.2M to Ohio Schools and Student Athletes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio High School Athletic Association awarded $200,000 in scholarships to 200 recent graduates through its Scholar-Athlete program while distributing an additional $1,020,000 to member high schools.

Each scholarship recipient received $1,000, selected by their respective District Athletic Boards. The scholarship total represents the highest amount distributed in the program’s 31-year history, marking the second consecutive year at this funding level.

Athletic Department Funding All OHSAA member high schools received $1,250 from the association’s Athletic Enrichment Fund, established in 2023. Schools can use the money for equipment, uniforms, game transportation, officials and programs to improve student sportsmanship and adult fan behavior.

Selection Criteria Scholar-athletes earn points based on grade-point averages, class rank, community service, varsity letters and athletic honors. Each district’s allocation reflects its number of member schools, with special committees handling selections within the OHSAA’s six athletic districts.

Students receiving NCAA Division I or II athletic scholarships or military academy appointments are ineligible for the awards.

OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute said the recipients represent the best of high school athletics and congratulated them on their accomplishments.
