Parma Woman Arrested for Home Depot Theft

A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of Athena Marie Ozanich on August 14 after Macedonia police observed suspicious activity at Home Depot. Officer Chris Neal noticed a woman quickly exiting the store with an unbagged cart full of merchandise.

The 38-year-old Parma woman was stopped after Neal observed her license plate partially obstructed in the rear window. During the stop, Ozanich initially provided false identification and claimed not to know her Social Security number or exact age.

Police discovered multiple identification cards in her possession and found she had two active arrest warrants. Home Depot staff confirmed merchandise totaling $872.37 was taken without payment. Ozanich faces charges of petty theft, no operator’s license, and obstructed license plate.

Twinsburg Man Charged with OVI

Kyle James Sakach was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence early August 17. The 35-year-old faces multiple charges including OVI with refusal after declining field sobriety tests.

Police responded to reports of an intoxicated driver who nearly struck two vehicles and pedestrians in a parking lot. Officers observed the vehicle crossing the center line on State Route 82 before conducting a traffic stop.

During the arrest, police discovered THC gummies and an open wine bottle in the vehicle. Sakach refused to provide a breath sample, resulting in an automatic license suspension.

THEFT & PROPERTY CRIMES

Kohl’s Shoplifter Identified Through Video Evidence

Macedonia police issued a warrant for Eugene Parkes IV following a shoplifting incident at Kohl’s on August 14. Store security captured video of the suspect selecting merchandise and leaving without payment.

The theft occurred around 12:53 PM when the suspect allegedly exited through the south doors with a cart full of unpaid items valued at $1,017. Store employees witnessed the incident and provided video evidence to investigators.

Police identified Parkes through previous booking photos and confirmed his identity using distinctive tattoos visible in the security footage. A felony theft warrant was issued through Stow Municipal Court.

Cash Missing from Purse at Culver’s

A Macedonia woman reported approximately $140 missing from her purse after leaving it unattended at Culver’s restaurant on August 11. The victim discovered the missing currency when she retrieved her forgotten purse the following day.

The victim reported having one hundred-dollar bill and several twenty-dollar bills that were taken, while smaller denominations remained in the purse. Restaurant management agreed to review security footage. The case remains under investigation.

TRAFFIC & MISCELLANEOUS

Hit-and-Run Damages School Zone Sign

A vehicle struck a school zone sign on Shepard Road on August 17, leaving the sign bent and damaged. Police responded around 9:56 PM after receiving reports of a loud noise and possible vehicle collision.

Officers found the damaged sign in front of a residence but were unable to locate the responsible vehicle. No witnesses were available to provide a description of the vehicle involved.

Telephone Harassment Scheme Targets Macedonia Resident

A Macedonia man reported being victimized in an online extortion scheme that began on a dating application. The victim filed a complaint August 12 after someone identifying as “Cindy” demanded $1,200.

The suspect claimed to be underage after exchanging messages and photos, then threatened to contact the victim’s employer and family members unless payment was made. The suspect followed through on threats when payment was refused, prompting the victim to change phone numbers and email addresses.

Police attempted to contact the suspect using provided phone numbers but have not received a response. The case was closed pending further contact attempts.

Juvenile Cases Continue

Macedonia police responded to multiple juvenile-related incidents during the reporting period, including property damage and unruly behavior calls. Officers utilized body cameras and worked with parents to address ongoing behavioral issues.

One incident involved property damage at a residence on Tanglewood Road, where a television was destroyed during a domestic disturbance. The juvenile had been previously arrested and released from Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
