Lake Erie College has unveiled an impressive lineup of performances for the academic year, featuring Grammy Award-winning ensembles, Broadway performers, and internationally acclaimed musicians across multiple venues on campus.
MUSIC & CONCERTS
The season opens September 27 with a Steinway Showcase featuring Artists-in-Residence Joe Augustine and Todd Wilson. Augustine, a Steinway Artist and jazz pianist, will perform Great American Classics on the college’s newly donated nine-foot Steinway concert grand piano, followed by Wilson’s performance on the historic 1927 Skinner Organ.
Cleveland’s Grammy Award-winning baroque ensemble Apollo’s Fire returns October 9 with Henry Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas.” The group will perform the classic tale of love and betrayal in the Helen Rockwell Morley Memorial Music Building.
Holiday Vespers on December 13 will feature organist Todd Wilson, the Lake Erie College Choir, and Broadway soprano Teri Bibb from “Phantom of the Opera,” presenting traditional and contemporary holiday music.
The Joe Augustine Jazz Trio will perform in February, with additional concerts including a Spring Concert by the Lake Erie College Choir on April 26 and the Blue Water Chamber Orchestra featuring soprano Midori Marsh on May 3.
THEATRE
The theatrical season includes “Little Shop of Horrors” November 13-16, directed by Lisa Ortenzi of Great Lakes Theatre Company. The horror-comedy-rock musical features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman.
“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)” runs April 16-19, condensing all 37 Shakespeare plays into 97 minutes of comedy under director Brint Learned.
DANCE & SPECIAL EVENTS
Dancing Wheels presents the world premiere of “Puff, the Magic Dragon” on January 17. The physically integrated dance company unites performers with and without disabilities in a new ballet based on the beloved folk song.
Author and Lake Erie College alumna Deborah Goodrich Royce will discuss her new book “Best Boy” during a March 6 talk and Q&A session.
ART EXHIBITIONS
The B.K. Smith Gallery will host multiple exhibitions throughout the year, including “In Process–A Real Time Experience” running August 18 through October 24, student exhibitions, and “From Woman 19” curated by Mary Urbas from February 6 through March 26.
Many performances are free and open to the public, with ticketed events available through the college’s website. Shows will be held in the Helen Rockwell Morley Memorial Music Building and Rickel Theatre in Royce Hall for the Performing Arts.
