Progressive Leads Northeast Ohio on Fortune 500 with Record Revenue Growth

Ten local companies make prestigious list as revenue threshold climbs

Mayfield Village – Progressive Corporation ranked 57th on the Fortune 500 list for 2025, making it the highest-ranked Greater Cleveland company with revenues of $75.3 billion, up from $62.1 billion the previous year. The insurance giant moved up five spots in the rankings, cementing northeast Ohio’s position as a major economic force.

The revenue threshold for making the 2025 Fortune 500 list was $7.4 billion this year, up 4% from a year ago. Ten northeast Ohio companies cleared this bar, demonstrating the region’s diverse economic strength across multiple industries.

  • No. 191 – Sherwin-Williams (Cleveland): $23 billion
  • No. 215 – Parker-Hannifin (Mayfield Heights): $19.9 billion
  • No. 221 – Cleveland-Cliffs: $19.1 billion
  • No. 250 – KeyCorp (Cleveland): $18.1 billion
  • No. 298 – FirstEnergy (Akron): $13.8 billion
  • No. 341 – Eaton Corporation (Beachwood): $11.9 billion
  • No. 395 – American Electric Power (Columbus/Akron region): $9.8 billion
  • No. 421 – Goodyear Tire & Rubber (Akron): $8.9 billion
  • No. 456 – TravelCenters of America (Westlake): $8.2 billion

Several northeast Ohio companies just missed the Fortune 500 cut but remain substantial regional players. RPM International from Medina came in at No. 504 with $7.3 billion in revenue, while The Timken Company in North Canton reached No. 708 with $4.5 billion.

Other notable local companies included Applied Industrial Technologies from Cleveland at No. 716 with $4.47 billion, Medical Mutual of Ohio at No. 734 with $4.3 billion, and Lincoln Electric Holdings at No. 774 with $4 billion in revenue.

The strong showing by northeast Ohio companies on the Fortune 500 list reflects the region’s economic diversity and resilience. Progressive’s continued growth in the competitive insurance market highlights the company’s strong market position and strategic execution.

According to Fortune 500, Ohio’s top business overall is Dublin-based wholesale health-supply distributor Cardinal Health, which ranked 15th with $226 billion in revenue. The state’s business climate continues to support major corporate operations and growth.

Walmart finished in the top spot of the Fortune 500 for the 13th year in a row, with $680 billion in revenue. Progressive’s performance places northeast Ohio prominently on the national business map.

The Fortune 500 rankings serve as a key indicator of corporate health and regional economic strength, with northeast Ohio’s strong representation demonstrating the area’s continued importance as a business hub in the Midwest.
