Wadsworth Fire Department responded to two separate fires September 2, keeping crews busy for hours as they battled blazes in the township.
The first call came at 4:27 p.m. for a barn fire on Silvercreek Road in Wadsworth Township. Fire crews arrived to find a 5,000 square foot structure fully engulfed in flames. Due to the rural location and limited water access, multiple departments were called to assist with the response.
No animals were injured in the barn fire, but one bystander required medical transport for a minor injury unrelated to the blaze. Fire crews remained on scene for six hours to fully extinguish the fire and monitor for hot spots.

Later that evening at 7:25 p.m., Wadsworth firefighters received a second call for a residential garage fire in the township. Crews responded to find an active fire in the detached garage. The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, preventing any civilian injuries. With assistance from mutual aid departments, the garage fire was quickly brought under control.
Chief Robert Lindner thanked the numerous departments that provided mutual aid during the busy evening, including Chippewa Township, Rittman, Norton, Copley, Seville, Sterling, Sharon Township, Granger, Westfield, Medina County FIU, Wadsworth Electric, Wadsworth Street Department, Wadsworth Police, and the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.
The Medina County Fire Investigation Unit is investigating both fires to determine their causes.
