Nordonia’s defense stole the show Thursday night, forcing six turnovers in a 59-46 victory over Mayfield that featured 105 combined points and multiple momentum swings.
The Knights capitalized on five Mayfield interceptions and converted those mistakes into 14 points. Fisher returned one pick 36 yards for a score while Jackson took another 72 yards to the house in the third quarter.

Nordonia’s offensive attack was balanced and explosive. Quarterback Fakult threw for 335 yards on 16-of-21 passing with four touchdowns. Jackson emerged as his top target with seven catches for 212 yards and two scores, including strikes of 28 and 33 yards. On the ground, Whapham rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries while Montiel punched in a two-yard score.
Mayfield kept pace offensively despite the turnovers. Running back Koret powered the ground game with 102 yards and two touchdowns on 17 attempts. Quarterback D’Agostino completed 15 of 35 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns, finding Sega for a 79-yard bomb and connecting with Haynes twice for scores of 13 and 21 yards.
The game featured spectacular special teams plays. Jefferson returned a kickoff 92 yards for a Nordonia touchdown while Mayfield answered with Murchison’s 88-yard kickoff return for six points.
The scoring came in waves. Nordonia built a 21-6 first quarter advantage before Mayfield roared back to take a 39-34 lead in the second quarter. The Knights seized control in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 25-7 to secure the victory.
Both teams moved the ball effectively with Nordonia totaling 445 yards compared to Mayfield’s 379 yards. Penalties proved costly for both sides as Nordonia was flagged 18 times for 140 yards while Mayfield committed 15 penalties for 140 yards.
Looking ahead, Nordonia (ranked 50th in Ohio and 863rd nationally) will travel to face Brecksville-Broadview Heights next Friday. The Bees enter at 2-1 overall and are ranked 170th in Ohio. Mayfield will look to regroup as they continue their season.
