School Threat Investigation Sept 3
A juvenile was arrested after allegedly making threats at Brown Middle School. The incident occurred during class when the student reportedly threatened other students and staff.
The threats were reported to administrators by a teacher who witnessed the incident. When questioned by the principal, the student admitted to making the statements. Students who heard the threats reported being in fear.
The juvenile was charged with making false alarms and aggravated menacing and will appear in juvenile court.
Assault Arrest Aug 29
A juvenile was arrested on assault charges. Details of the incident were not immediately available.
Drug-Related Arrests
Traffic Stop Yields Drug Charges Aug 29
Jake Buck, 28, of Kent, was arrested during a traffic stop after officers discovered narcotics in his vehicle. Police conducted a consent search of the vehicle and found drugs, which will be sent to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing.
Buck was charged with possession of drugs.
Drug Possession Arrest Aug 29
Phenina Sanders, 53, was arrested on drug possession charges. Additional details were not provided.
Impaired Driving
Repeat Offender Arrested for OVI Sept 1
Pierre Mattocks, 39, of Akron, was arrested on multiple charges after officers responded to reports of an intoxicated driver circling the block. An off-duty officer had called in the suspicious driving behavior.
Officers located Mattocks’ vehicle and observed him fail to signal while turning. During the traffic stop, police detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted his slurred speech, constricted pupils, and unsteady movement.
Mattocks refused field sobriety tests and chemical testing despite having four prior OVI convictions. His license was under multiple suspensions at the time of arrest.
He was charged with OVI, OVI refusal with previous conviction, driving under suspension, and failure to signal.
Open Container Violations
Repeat Open Container Violations Sept 2-3
Michael Jarvis, 49, a homeless Ravenna resident, was arrested twice in two days for open container violations.
On Sept 2, Jarvis was found on the courthouse lawn with an open beer can.
On Sept 3, police responded to a welfare check at a building where Jarvis was found sleeping in the foyer with an open beer can. When officers arrived, they observed him pick up the opened container. Jarvis acknowledged he knew he wasn’t supposed to have open alcohol containers in public.
Traffic Stop Open Container Citation Sept 3
Melissa Miller, 46, of Mantua, was cited for open container after police found alcohol in her vehicle during a traffic stop. Miller claimed ownership of the beverage and was issued a citation. She reportedly crumpled up the citation and stated she would not appear in court or pay the fine.
Criminal Damage
Property Damage Arrest Sept 4
John Oramas, 61, was arrested on charges of criminal damaging/endangering. Details of the incident were not released.
Outstanding Warrants
Multiple Warrant Arrests Aug 29 – Sept 4
Several individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants during the reporting period:
- Demonte Booze, 30, of Akron, was arrested Aug 29 during a traffic stop when officers discovered he had an active felony warrant through Adult Parole Authority. He was transported to Portage County Justice Center.
- Nathan Crew, 45, of Euclid, was arrested Aug 29 by Ravenna police after Streetsboro officers discovered he had an active RPD misdemeanor warrant.
- Rodney Wright, 60, was arrested Aug 30 on a misdemeanor warrant.
- Jason Oblinger, 47, was arrested Sept 3 on a felony warrant.
- Andre Miles, 31, of Euclid, was arrested Sept 4 on a misdemeanor warrant and transported to Portage County Jail.
- Tasonta Williams, 27, was arrested Sept 4 on a misdemeanor warrant.
