Maltz Museum Takes Art to the Streets with Mobile Exhibition

Beachwood museum wraps buses and trolleys with collection artwork to reach new audiences

The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage is bringing its collections directly to Northeast Ohio commuters through a new “Museum in Motion” campaign that transforms public transportation into moving galleries.

City buses and downtown trolleys now feature vibrant artwork from the museum’s collections, complete with QR codes that link to additional information about the displayed artifacts. The initiative aims to reach people in their daily routines and encourage museum visits.

“We want to meet people where they are—on their way to work, school, or the grocery store—and invite them to experience something powerful,” said Aaron Petersal, the museum’s executive director.

The wrapped vehicles serve as more than advertising, functioning as mobile exhibitions that showcase the art, ideas and human experiences featured at the Beachwood museum. Each display includes QR codes directing viewers to maltzmuseum.org/museum-in-motion for more information.

To encourage first-time visitors, the museum offers a $5 discount on general admission through QR codes on the vehicles or online. Regular admission costs $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and $5 for youth ages 5-11.

The Maltz Museum, located at 2929 Richmond Road in Beachwood, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended Wednesday hours until 9 p.m. The museum also participates in the Museums for All program, offering free admission to families with SNAP or WIC benefits.
