Solon Police Reports: Domestic Violence, Impaired Driving, and Menacing

Impaired Driving

An unusual incident occurred September 9 at 3:37 a.m. in the parking lot of The Annex Bar and Grille on Pettibone Road. An employee reported a vehicle had been running in the lot for approximately three hours. Officers found a Chevrolet Malibu with a man sleeping or passed out in the driver’s seat.

After several attempts to wake him, the subject responded but spoke in a slow and slurred manner. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol and asked the man to exit for sobriety testing. He appeared unsteady and leaned against the car for support before refusing all tests. A 29-year-old Twinsburg man was arrested and charged with physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He also refused a breath test at the jail, resulting in an administrative license suspension. The vehicle was towed.

Menacing Investigation

A 63-year-old Solon woman reported being threatened by another resident of Liberty Hills Apartments on Hamilton Court. The incident occurred September 6 around 9:05 a.m. near the parking garage when the victim heard what she believed was an ethnic slur. After asking if the comment was directed at her, the suspect allegedly walked toward her aggressively and made additional threatening statements. Officers obtained arrest warrants and located the suspect at her apartment September 10 at 9 p.m. A 30-year-old Solon woman was arrested and charged with menacing and ethnic intimidation. The victim plans to seek a protection order.

Domestic Violence

A Twinsburg man was arrested September 8 after allegedly assaulting his mother while she was driving on Solon Boulevard near Inwood Road. Officers responded at 8:47 a.m. to a witness report of physical violence between two people in a moving white Toyota sedan. The vehicle was last seen heading down Arthur Road from SOM Center Road.

An officer located and stopped the vehicle, finding a 68-year-old female driver from Twinsburg who appeared upset. She told police her son had been arguing with her and physically assaulted her during the argument while she was driving. The 29-year-old man was arrested and charged with domestic violence. The victim did not require immediate medical treatment.

A second domestic violence incident occurred September 14 at 2:28 a.m. at Springhill Suites on Aurora Road. Officers responded to an assault call and found the suspect attempting to leave the parking lot in a silver Ford Fusion belonging to the victim. The 32-year-old Cleveland woman told officers her boyfriend punched her in the face and slammed her face into a mirror during an argument. She sustained minor facial injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. A 34-year-old Cleveland man was arrested and charged with domestic violence.

Retail Theft

Giant Eagle on Aurora Road was the scene of two separate incidents during the reporting period. On September 8 at 2:56 p.m., loss prevention detained a shoplifter who attempted to leave with a cart full of groceries without paying. A 56-year-old Mayfield Heights man was arrested and charged with theft. The recovered merchandise was valued at $324.

On September 10 at 4:20 p.m., the same store reported a trespassing violation when a suspect who had been previously banned returned to the location. Store loss prevention had served the individual with a written trespass warning the previous day after observing suspicious conduct at a self-scan checkout. A 49-year-old Solon man was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

At Tractor Supply on Kruse Drive, employees reported a theft September 15 at 1:02 p.m. when a man left without paying for a cordless drill. The suspect fled in a black GMC Terrain but was stopped by an officer on US 422 near Harper Road. The stolen Dewalt drill set, valued at $258, was recovered from inside the vehicle. A 56-year-old Willoughby man was arrested and charged with theft. His vehicle was towed.

Traffic Stop Yields Multiple Citations

During a traffic stop September 12 at 12:06 p.m., an officer pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu with dark window tint on Cochran Road near Aurora Road. The driver’s license was found to be suspended, and the officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana and observed a suspected blunt in the vehicle. When asked to exit the car, the driver reportedly put his hands in his pockets and began walking away before being detained. A search prior to towing revealed two suspected marijuana blunts. A 23-year-old North Randall man was cited for driving under suspension, smoking marijuana while driving, no seatbelt, and window tint violations.
