OHSAA Releases First Football Computer Ratings as Playoffs Near

Several northeast Ohio teams secure strong positions in early rankings

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its first official football computer ratings Tuesday, with several northeast Ohio teams positioning themselves well for the upcoming playoffs.

In Division I Region 1, Mentor (5-0) leads with a 12.7 rating, followed by Lakewood St. Edward (4-1) at 11.8707 and Berea-Midpark (4-1) at 10.7. Strongsville (4-1) sits fifth with an 8.7 rating, while Medina (2-3) holds the 10th spot despite its record.

Division II Region 5 features strong northeast Ohio representation with Nordonia (5-0) in second place at 11.75, trailing only Uniontown Lake. Hudson (4-1) and Twinsburg (4-1) are tied for fifth with 9.1 ratings, while Garfield Heights (4-1) occupies eighth place at 7.102.

The Region 6 standings show Medina Highland (5-0) at the top with 13.65, followed by Wadsworth (5-0) at 12.1 and Avon (4-1) at 11.55. North Ridgeville (4-1) sits sixth, while Lakewood (3-2) holds ninth place.

Division III features several area teams in competitive positions. In Region 9, Canfield (5-0) leads at 12.45, with Madison (3-2) fourth and Alliance (4-1) sixth. Chardon (3-2) holds seventh place in the region.

The top 12 teams in each region will qualify for the playoffs, with the top four seeds receiving first-round byes. The OHSAA will release updated ratings each Tuesday through the final report October 26.

Playoff action begins October 31 with first-round games hosted by higher seeds, continuing through state championships December 4-6 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
