Police made three separate OVI arrests over a four-day period, including one driver found asleep at a green light.
On Oct. 29 at 11:48 p.m., an officer stopped a Tesla Model S on Brainard Road after observing it traveling 10-15 mph under the speed limit and drifting outside its lane. The driver showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking. After failing field sobriety tests and refusing to complete a breath test at the jail, a 47-year-old Solon man was charged with OVI and marked lanes violations. His license was suspended and the vehicle was towed.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 2 at 1 a.m., officers stopped a black Ford pickup on US 422 near SOM Center Road for speeding between 76-79 mph in a 60 mph zone. The driver displayed slurred speech and reddened eyes, failed field sobriety tests, then refused further testing. A 31-year-old Niles man was charged with OVI, speeding, marked lanes and following too close. His license was suspended and the vehicle towed. The driver’s brother, a passenger who became argumentative with officers, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Just hours later at 3:08 a.m., an officer found a Mercedes SUV stopped at a green light on Aurora Road at Solon Road with a woman asleep behind the wheel. The vehicle was in drive with her foot on the brake. The confused driver smelled of alcohol, admitted to drinking and failed field sobriety tests. After refusing a breath test, a 38-year-old Solon woman was charged with OVI and driving under suspension. Her license was suspended and the car was towed.
Garage burglarized on Brainard Road
A resident in the 5200 block of Brainard Road reported Oct. 27 at 2:13 p.m. that lawn care equipment worth $8,000 was stolen from her garage. The stolen items included a lawn tractor, self-propelled mower and power washer. The man entry door to the garage was broken. The victim, a 54-year-old woman, told police she suspects someone she knows. Detectives are investigating.
Safe stolen from moving company
A manager at Move 4 Less, 32300 Aurora Road, reported Oct. 28 at 12:28 pm that a small safe was stolen from the office between the afternoon of Oct. 27 and the morning of Oct. 28. The safe contained cash and a company credit card. While there was no sign of forced entry, officers found a door propped open. The 37-year-old Bedford Heights man reported the incident. Detectives are investigating.
Traffic stop leads to stolen gun arrest
An officer conducting a registration check on a red Chevy Equinox on Cochran Road near Solon Road on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. discovered the owner had a suspended license. After stopping the vehicle, the officer cited the 28-year-old Cleveland woman for driving under suspension. When offering the passenger a ride, the officer asked if he had anything on him. The passenger admitted to having a weapon and handed over a loaded semi-automatic pistol. A database search revealed the gun was reported stolen in Akron in 2023. A 30-year-old Maple Heights man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and improper handling of a firearm. The vehicle was towed.
Cocaine possession leads to arrest
Officers stopped a black Range Rover on Solon Road on Oct. 29 at 4:23 p.m. for an obstructed license plate. The driver, a 65-year-old Cleveland man, had an active warrant from Michigan State Police for cocaine possession. A passenger, a 70-year-old Cleveland man, also had a warrant from Chagrin Falls for a misdemeanor offense. After a police K9 alerted to contraband in the vehicle, the driver admitted there was crack cocaine in the car. He was arrested and charged with drug possession and will be held on the Michigan warrant. The passenger was turned over to Chagrin Falls officers. A third passenger, a 74-year-old Cleveland man, was not charged and the vehicle was released to him.
Man with warrant found hiding in garage during trick-or-treat
An off-duty officer noticed suspicious behavior on Charmwood Oval during trick-or-treat hours on Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m. when a man began running toward a wooded area after a marked patrol car drove by. Officers located the man hiding in a garage on the block. A 26-year-old Cleveland man was arrested on an active Solon warrant for failure to appear on a traffic offense. He was taken to jail without incident and no additional charges were filed. The man knows people who live at the residence but does not live there himself.
Warrant arrest at Circle K
An officer on patrol at Circle K, 29605 Aurora Road, ran a registration check on a gray Ford truck on Nov. 2 at 7:49 p.m. The registered owner had a felony warrant from Medina County Sheriff’s Office for burglary. Officers stopped two men near the vehicle and confirmed the driver was the wanted person. A 57-year-old Cleveland man was arrested, transported to Richfield and turned over to deputies. The officer also cited him for drug paraphernalia after finding a suspected crack pipe in his coat pocket. A 36-year-old Cleveland man who was a passenger was not charged and the vehicle was not towed.
