New Labs, New Opportunities: A-Tech Unveils Expansion for Career-Tech Students

Ashtabula County Technical & Career Center celebrates a major expansion, adding modern labs and classrooms to prepare more local students for in-demand careers.

The Ashtabula County Technical & Career Center (A-Tech) marked a major milestone this week as officials, staff, and students gathered to celebrate a significant expansion of the campus. The project adds new instructional space and upgraded labs designed to give more Ashtabula County students hands-on training for in-demand careers.

The expansion includes modernized classrooms, updated technology, and improved lab space for career pathways such as advanced manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and skilled trades. School leaders say the upgrades are aimed at better aligning students’ training with the needs of local employers across the county and the broader region.

During the celebration, A-Tech administrators emphasized that enrollment has grown in recent years as more students and families look for affordable pathways into good-paying jobs. The additional space will allow the school to serve more high school students as well as adult learners seeking new skills or career changes. Local officials in attendance also pointed to the expansion as a sign of confidence in Ashtabula County’s future workforce.

For students, the changes are already visible in the classroom. New equipment and updated labs mean they can practice on tools and technology similar to what’s used on the job. Teachers say that makes graduates more competitive when they apply for apprenticeships, technical college programs, or entry-level positions immediately after finishing school.

A-Tech’s expansion also ties into broader efforts in the county to strengthen the talent pipeline. The school partners with area businesses, hospitals, and manufacturers to offer internships, job-shadowing, and advisory input on what should be taught. Officials say the additional space and resources will make it easier to deepen those partnerships and potentially add new programs in the future.

The expansion celebration underscored how central A-Tech has become to both students and employers in Ashtabula County. As the new facilities come fully online, school leaders hope to reach even more young people who want to stay in the region and build a career close to home.
