High School Football: Northeast Ohio Teams Set for Regional Final Showdowns

Local powerhouses headline Friday night matchups as playoff field narrows to 28

The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced pairings for football regional finals across all seven divisions, with several northeast Ohio teams positioned for championship runs. All 28 games kick off Friday at 7 p.m. at neutral sites.

Division I – Region 1

Top-seeded Mentor (12-0) faces Lakewood St. Edward (10-2) at Parma Byers Field. The Cardinals enter undefeated while the Eagles bring playoff experience to the matchup.

Division II – Region 5

Akron Archbishop Hoban (10-1) takes on Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit (10-1) at Bedford’s Bearcat Stadium in a battle between two Catholic school programs. Both teams carry identical records into the regional final.

Division II – Region 6

Medina Highland (12-0) meets Avon (11-1) at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium. Highland enters with a perfect record while Avon looks to extend its playoff run.

Division III – Region 9

Cuyahoga Falls CVCA (11-0) squares off against Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph (10-1) at Twinsburg’s Tiger Stadium. Both teams remain undefeated through the regional semifinals.

Division IV – Region 13

Perry (10-2) battles Cleveland Glenville (9-3) at Ravenna’s Portage Community Bank Stadium.

Division V – Region 17

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney (9-2) faces Girard (12-0) at Canfield South Range’s Rominger Athletic Complex. Girard brings an unblemished record into the contest.

Division VI – Region 21

Top-seeded Kirtland (12-0) takes on Sugarcreek Garaway (10-2) at Louisville’s Leopard Stadium. The Hornets remain perfect through 12 games.

Division VII – Region 25

McDonald (12-0) meets Mogadore (11-1) at Macedonia Nordonia’s Boliantz Stadium in another matchup featuring undefeated competition.

Winners advance to state semifinals on Nov. 28, with rebracketing determining matchups. State championship games take place Dec. 4-6 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.

Tickets go on sale Monday at ohsaa.org/tickets. All regional finals will be broadcast on either Spectrum or the NFHS Network.
