A newly released statement from the Twinsburg Police Department gives a fuller picture of the events leading up to the shooting death of London Brown, a 14-year-old Twinsburg girl, and the charges now pending against a 15-year-old boy in juvenile court.
According to the Nov. 17 media release, officers were called at 11:48 a.m. on Nov. 15 to a Ravenna Road address after Brown left her residence with a firearm. Her mother provided a description, and officers began searching the surrounding area.
At 12:36 p.m., the Twinsburg Dispatch Center received a call from a White Oak Drive resident reporting that gunshots had been heard nearby. Officers responded and found Brown in a wooded area northwest of Twinsburg High School, near 10084 Ravenna Road, with an apparent gunshot wound.
While canvassing the area, officers located a 15-year-old male exiting the wooded lot behind the Twinsburg Community Center at 10260 Ravenna Road. During the investigation, police say they determined the teen was responsible for Brown’s death.
The boy, a Twinsburg Township resident, has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. He appeared in Summit County Juvenile Court on Nov. 17 and is being held in custody pending a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m.
Brown has been identified publicly as a freshman at Twinsburg High School.
In the release, Twinsburg police expressed condolences to Brown’s family and asked the community to respect their privacy “while they deal with this tragedy.” Investigators emphasized that there is no continued danger or concern to the public.
The case remains an open investigation managed by the department’s Detective Bureau, with assistance from the Twinsburg Fire Department, Valley Enforcement Group, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
This updated information follows the department’s initial announcement of an arrest on Saturday. NEOhio.News first reported on the shooting and arrest on Nov. 16. Read our initial coverage here.
