SOLON, Ohio – Solon police responded to a range of incidents the week of Nov. 25, including a check fraud case linked to the post office, an ongoing trespassing dispute between neighbors, and an OVI crash that left one driver with a minor injury.

Check Fraud Reported After Mailed Payment Altered

A 63-year-old Solon woman reported that one of her personal checks was stolen and altered after she mailed it at the Solon Post Office on Station Street. She told officers she dropped a credit card payment in the mail on Nov. 5.

Two weeks later, she learned the check had cleared her bank, but for a different amount and to a different recipient. Her credit card company never received a payment.

Investigators determined the original check had been intercepted and altered before it was negotiated, resulting in a $3,100 loss to the bank. The woman’s bank advised it would reimburse her. The suspect in the check fraud has not been identified.

Neighbor Dispute Leads to Criminal Trespass Charges

Officers were called to a home on the 30000 block of Stillwater Lane on Nov. 26 for a trespassing complaint.

The homeowner, a 47-year-old Solon man, told police that a neighbor from an adjacent property came into his yard despite having been served with a trespass warning two days earlier. The original dispute reportedly began over yard work and led to Solon police issuing the written warning.

On Nov. 26, the neighbor allegedly walked into the back yard again. Officers issued citations for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass and documented the ongoing neighbor issue.

OVI Crash on Aurora Road

On Nov. 27, officers responded to Aurora Road eastbound at Harper Road for a reported crash involving two vehicles.

Police say a Ford Escape rear-ended a Ford F-150 pickup that was stopped in traffic. The driver of the Escape was checked by EMS and then spoke with officers, telling them he had consumed “a couple” vodka drinks at a lounge in Bedford Heights before driving.

Field sobriety tests were administered after the medical assessment. According to the report, the driver showed poor performance and was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence. Due to the weather, additional testing was conducted at the Solon Jail, where police say he again performed poorly.

The man refused a breath test, and his license was placed under suspension. He was charged with OVI and assured clear distance ahead in connection with the crash.

The 35-year-old Cleveland man driving the pickup reported a minor injury, was treated at the scene, and released. Both vehicles were towed from the roadway because of damage.

Disorderly Conduct at Local Store

On Nov. 26, officers were dispatched to Walgreens on SOM Center Road after management reported a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they saw a man throw a glass bottle into the street, where it shattered on Bainbridge Road. The man reportedly told officers he was upset about an issue related to his medication.

Police said he became agitated when they attempted to detain him while they investigated, and he struggled with officers. He was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge and later warned not to return to the store.

Domestic Violence Suspect Arrested After Returning Home

Police were called to a home on the 6400 block of Glenallen Avenue on Nov. 27 after a 52-year-old woman reported she had been slapped in the face by a man she lives with.

The woman told officers she retreated to a bathroom to call police. When they arrived, the suspect had already left. Officers documented the incident, discussed safety planning with her, and sought a domestic violence warrant. She declined medical treatment for minor facial injuries.

About two hours later, a witness reported that the suspect had returned to the residence in a white Honda Accord. Officers came back to the home and arrested him without incident. He was taken to the Solon Jail on a domestic violence charge.
