Diamond, Ohio’s own Tatum Cutting, from Portage County, has claimed one of the biggest prizes in amateur billiards, winning the 2025 Women’s U.S. Amateur Pool Championship in Las Vegas. Cutting bested a field of the top amateur poolplayers from across North America to capture the sport’s most prestigious women’s amateur title.
The U.S. Amateur Championship, produced and conducted by the American Poolplayers Association (APA), took place Nov. 14-15 at the Westgate Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Cutting was one of just 41 women who advanced to the Championship Rounds by winning one of several qualifying tournaments held around the country. Nearly 700 women attempted to qualify for the event, underscoring just how hard-fought a spot at the championship truly is.
The double-elimination tournament format allowed the top amateur competitors to showcase their skills in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball. Cutting navigated that demanding format all the way to the final, where she secured the title. Her championship match, “Tatum Cutting vs. Nellie Del Rosario – 2025 Final – Women’s U.S. Amateur Championship,” can be viewed online for those who want to watch her clinch the victory.
With the win, Cutting not only secures the highest honor in women’s amateur pool, but also earns a trophy, event jacket, and paid travel, lodging and entry into a 2026 professional billiard event. As Women’s U.S. Amateur Champion, she also receives an automatic bid to return in 2026 to defend her title.
The APA, headquartered in Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league. Known as the APA Pool League in the United States and the Canadian Pool League in Canada, the organization includes more than 275,000 members competing in weekly 8-Ball and 9-Ball league play. The APA is widely recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, setting official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for amateur billiards.
Each year, the APA produces three major tournaments: the APA World Pool Championships, the APA Poolplayer Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship. Together, those events pay out nearly $2 million in cash and prizes annually.
The APA and its Championships are sponsored by PoolDawg, Aramith, Action Cues, Kamui Tips and Diamond Billiard Products.
