Lyndhurst News Spotlights Police AAA Platinum Award, Youth-Led Book Drive and School, City Achievements

The Lyndhurst Police Department has received the Platinum Award for traffic safety from AAA East Central Ohio during their Community Traffic Safety Program Awards.

The Platinum Award represents the highest level of recognition presented by AAA for continued commitment to traffic safety, community education, and proactive enforcement initiatives designed to keep highways and byways safe for all who live, work, and travel in and through Lyndhurst.

Traffic Bureau Commander Lt. Steve DeBow accepted the award on behalf of the department.

In addition to traffic safety achievements, the Lyndhurst Police Foundation recently completed its first-ever book drive with remarkable results. Brush High School Senior Henry collected 138 books for the foundation, demonstrating how youth service projects can meaningfully impact local children while fostering strong community partnerships.

The police department continues to seek qualified candidates for an Administrative Assistant position to the Chief of Police. The full-time position offers a pay range of $27.38 to $39.41 per hour plus benefits. Interested applicants can submit materials to Lt. Council Approves Budget, Announces Business Fair

Lyndhurst City Council approved appropriations for current expenses through Dec. 31 during its Nov. 3 meeting, while Mayor Patrick Ward announced several community events.

The city hosted a Business Resource Fair and Appreciation Breakfast on Nov. 19 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Community Center. The event featured Vaughn Johnson, Deputy Director for Economic Development for Cuyahoga County, and Shashonna Duckworth, Regional Director of Minority Business Assistance Center at the Urban League of Cleveland.

Council also authorized advertising for bids for Richmond Road culvert repairs.

The latest issue of Lyndhurst Life Magazine was released to print and has been delivered to mailboxes.

School District Highlights

School Board member Kathryn Falkenburg delivered her final report to council after completing eight years of service on the South Euclid Lyndhurst School Board.

Doug Fill, Interactive Media/Production Specialist, received the Ohio School Boards Association Northeast Region Classified Employee of the Year Award for his work in media production throughout the district.

In athletics, the Brush football team closed out their season with a 6-4 record after defeating Cleveland Central Catholic High School 45-18. Freshman Casey Flowers qualified for the state cross country championships, which took place Nov. 1.

Greenview Upper Elementary School students are participating in hands-on STEM learning through the care of two sulcata tortoises named Taco and Tortilla. First-year STEM teacher Steve Milazzotto’s program includes building structures for the tortoises and growing lettuce for their food.

The Brush National Honor Society collected non-perishable food items and grocery store gift cards through Nov. 19 to help local families in need during Thanksgiving.

Despite the government shutdown, South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools continued providing free breakfast and lunch programs for students. Counselors and resource specialists remained available to offer advice and support for students experiencing uncertainty.

Mayor Ward announced a recent meeting with Brush Principal Harris, Superintendent Dr. Kaple and representatives from Tri-C to discuss career readiness programs. The goal is to help Tri-C fill gaps where Excel Tec may not be meeting student needs, with increased student interest in programs like physics and engineering.
