ODOT Project: Public Input, Detours, and 2025โ€“2027 Timeline for Culvert Work

Portage and Summit County drivers invited to weigh in on planned closures and drainage upgrades for U.S. 422, State Routes 225, 176 and 303

The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking residents, drivers and nearby property owners to share feedback on a 2026 ODOT culvert project that will involve short-term road closures and detours on key routes in Portage and Summit Counties.

ODOT Culvert Project 2026 Will Affect U.S. 422, SR 225, SR 176 and SR 303

The planned work focuses on culvert and drainage maintenance at four separate locations. While ODOT culvert project 2026 work will temporarily close segments of these routes, the agency says substantial, long-term traffic disruptions are not expected and that access to homes and side streets will be maintained throughout construction.

U.S. 422 in Nelson Township, Portage County

On U.S. 422 (Main Market Road) in Nelson Township, Portage County, ODOT plans to replace a culvert under the roadway between Hobart Road and Bancroft Road.

  • Location: Between Hobart Road and Bancroft Road
  • Closure duration: Approximately 14 consecutive days
  • Detour: State Route 282 and State Route 305 will serve as the official detour route

During the closure, through traffic on this stretch of U.S. 422 will be rerouted, but access to nearby properties will be maintained.

State Route 225 in Palmyra Township, Portage County

On State Route 225 in Palmyra Township, crews will replace a culvert just south of Corbett Road.

  • Location: SR 225 between Corbett Road and Winding Creek Drive
  • Closure duration: Approximately 14 consecutive days
  • Detour: State Route 14 and Interstate 76 will be used as the official detour

Drivers who regularly use SR 225 should anticipate using the posted detour during the two-week closure window.

State Route 176 in Richfield Township, Summit County

In Richfield Township, Summit County, ODOT plans to replace a culvert under State Route 176 between Wakefield Run Boulevard and Newton Road.

  • Location: SR 176 between Wakefield Run Boulevard and Newton Road
  • Closure duration: Approximately 14 consecutive days
  • Detour: An official detour will use State Route 303, State Route 94 and State Route 82

ODOT notes that access will be maintained to adjacent properties and side streets, even while that segment of SR 176 is closed to through traffic.

State Route 303 in Richfield Township, Summit County

A longer closure is planned on State Route 303 in Richfield Township for another culvert replacement under the roadway.

  • Location: SR 303 between White Pond Drive and Sawbridge Drive
  • Closure duration: Approximately 30 consecutive days
  • Detour: State Route 176, Interstate 77 and Interstate 271 will be the official detour routes

Drivers in the Richfield area should plan ahead for the month-long closure on SR 303 once work begins.

Access and Traffic Impacts

According to ODOT, access will be maintained to all adjacent properties and side streets at each of the project locations. While each site will involve a full closure for a limited number of days, the agency does not expect substantial traffic disruptions beyond the posted detours.

The estimated construction cost for the overall project is approximately $1,412,400. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2025 and be completed before January 31, 2027.

Public Input Sought on ODOT Culvert Project 2026

ODOT reports that the proposed project is not expected to result in substantial impacts to environmental resources, but the agency is still asking for public comments on a variety of issues, including:

  • Potential effects on nearby residents
  • Air quality concerns
  • Environmental resource impacts
  • Maintenance of traffic and detour routing
  • Any right-of-way needs, including within parkland or public spaces

Residents, motorists and stakeholders are encouraged to submit comments on the ODOT culvert project 2026 and its traffic and environmental impacts.
