SOLON, Ohio โ€“ย The Solon Police Department has been active over the holiday season and into the new year, dealing with a significant spike in high-dollar fraud cases and dangerous traffic stops. From sophisticated email “spoofing” that cost a local business over $100,000 to arrests involving firearms and narcotics, the latest blotter highlights a range of criminal activity in the city.

Major Fraud and Forgery Schemes

Solon detectives are currently investigating several large-scale financial crimes. On December 25, a business on Solon Road reported a loss of $100,437 after an accounting department fell victim to an email imposter posing as a known supplier. In a separate incident, a 77-year-old resident reported that a $19 check she mailed to Kohlโ€™s was intercepted, altered to $9,200, and cashed, leaving her account with insufficient funds. Another business on Aurora Road reported an unauthorized withdrawal of $147,900 involving multiple counterfeit checks deposited into unknown accounts.

OVI and Firearm Charges

Traffic safety remains a priority as officers removed several impaired drivers from the road. On December 27, a 50-year-old woman was stopped on Aurora Road after driving in the wrong lane; she tested over the legal limit for alcohol. More seriously, on December 28, a 47-year-old man was arrested after a stop on Portage Street. Officers discovered a handgun hidden under a jacket on the passenger seat. The suspect, who had a BAC of .178, reportedly threatened officers and their families during his transport to the Solon jail.

Drug Possession and Criminal Damaging

Narcotics enforcement led to a felony arrest on Chagrin Highlands Drive. An officer stopped a vehicle for a stop sign violation and observed physical signs of drug use on the driver. A subsequent search revealed fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, police are looking into a case of criminal damaging on Park East Drive, where a womanโ€™s vehicle was keyed on both sides and an attempt was made to puncture her tires.
