Looking to start a business in Akron? All of your resources are here.
AKRON, Ohio โ Summit County is inviting residents to beat the winter chill by bringing home a new best friend. County Executive Ilene Shapiro and Summit County Animal Control have officially launched the “Warm Up with a Pup!” promotion, a special initiative designed to encourage dog adoption during the coldest months of the year. Starting Wednesday, Jan. 7, and running through Monday, Feb. 2, the community is encouraged to visit the shelter to find a cozy companion and take advantage of significantly reduced costs.
During this limited-time event, dog adoption fees have been slashed to just $28, a steep discount from the standard $94 rate. The county aims to clear the shelter by making it more affordable for families to welcome a pet into their lives. Every dog available for adoption is already microchipped and has been fully vetted, receiving comprehensive bloodwork, flea treatments, de-worming, vaccinations, and spay or neuter services.
In addition to the medical care and reduced fee, those who participate in this dog adoption event will receive a 2026 Summit County Dog License included in the cost. Residents interested in meeting the adoptable animals can visit the facility at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron during business hours or schedule an appointment by calling 330-643-2845. Photos of the available pups are also being updated regularly on the Summit County Animal Control Facebook page and 24 Pet Connect.
