MACEDONIA, Ohio – Macedonia Police handled a range of calls in recent reports, including an OVI arrest after a crash into a mailbox, a reported missing debit card at a senior living facility, and a neighborhood complaint involving a dog that got loose.
OVI Arrest After Vehicle Goes Off Road, Mailbox Hit
Officers responded Jan. 3 to Ledge Road near Sugarbush Park for a report of a vehicle driving off the roadway and striking a mailbox. Police said the driver showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and an odor of alcohol, and an open beer can was observed in the vehicle.
According to the report, the driver declined additional field sobriety testing after stating he had prior leg surgeries. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence, and the driver requested to provide a urine sample for testing. Charges listed included OVI, operation without reasonable control, and open container. The case was listed as awaiting results. (Incident 26-00006)
Debit Card Reported Missing at The Avenue of Macedonia
Police responded Jan. 5 to The Avenue of Macedonia on Valley View Road for a reported theft. A resident told officers she left to get her hair done on Jan. 3 and, upon returning, noticed her debit card missing from an envelope kept in a drawer.
Police reported the card was deactivated and the resident contacted her bank to check for unauthorized activity. No suspicious charges were found at the time of the report, and the resident ordered a replacement card. (Incident 26-00010)
Dog-at-Large Complaint Leads to Citation, Neighbor Dispute
Police were dispatched Jan. 5 to investigate a complaint about a dog at large in a neighborhood near Newport Drive. The reporting party told officers a dog ran out and went after him and his dog during a walk. He also reported that a man later approached him in a vehicle, yelled at him, and made threats.
Officers spoke with residents at the address, who reported the dog had been tethered but pulled the tether out of the ground and ran. Police advised the residents on leash laws, and one person was cited for dog running at large, with the citation forwarded to Macedonia Mayor’s Court. (Incident 26-00009)
Report Requested at Rehab Facility After Family Concern
In a separate call, police documented a request from a nurse at The Avenue of Macedonia after a patient’s son expressed concerns that his mother was being neglected because her bed was wet. Police noted the report was made at the facility and described it as a general occurrence at a rehabilitation center. (Incident 26-00005)
Facebook Marketplace Dispute Reported at YMCA
Police also took a report after a resident said he met a seller at the Macedonia YMCA for a Facebook Marketplace deal involving a graphics card. The buyer told police he paid $500 for what he believed was one model, but after getting home discovered it was a different model. Police advised it was a civil matter and attempted to help both parties connect to resolve the dispute. (Incident 26-00003)
