SOLON, Ohio
Theft
A manager at Tractor Supply on Solon Road reported unauthorized charges on a company credit card on Jan. 5. The victim had contracted a garage door repair company from Louisiana for work, but later discovered $400 in unauthorized charges after the initial payment. The bank reversed the charges, and an officer is investigating.
Extortion Averted
A 16-year-old male and his mother reported an extortion attempt to the Solon Police Department on Jan. 5. The teen received a direct message on Discord containing a photo of himself followed by a random photo of male genitalia and a demand for $300. The family did not pay and reported the content to Discord. Police noted that the app is frequently used by criminals due to the difficulty of identification.
Retail Theft
Officers responded to Tractor Supply on Kruse Drive on Jan. 5 after a male suspect in a white jacket and tan pants stole a pile of Carhartt jackets and overalls. The suspect fled in a black sedan. This marks the second Carhartt-related theft at the location in a week; a similar incident on Dec. 30 resulted in a loss of $910.
Fraud
A 73-year-old resident reported on Jan. 6 that he was defrauded of $13,500 by a plumber hired for sewer line repairs in October. The work was never completed, forcing the victim to pay another $6,000 to a different contractor. Investigators identified the suspect as a 34-year-old Pennsylvania man with a prior criminal record for fraud.
Check Fraud
A manager at Christopher Tool on Carter Street reported fraudulent activity on Jan. 6 involving a $8,300 check mailed to a vendor in Illinois. The check was intercepted, altered, and passed in the suspect’s name. The same check number was also counterfeited and passed in Illinois and New Jersey. The bank is reversing the charges.
Physical Control
Police were called to Burntwood Tavern on Jan. 8 after a woman reported her husband might be having a stroke or was intoxicated. Officers found a 44-year-old Hudson man in a white Lincoln SUV smelling of alcohol and slurring his speech. After failing field sobriety tests and refusing a breath test, he was charged with Physical Control of a Vehicle Under the Influence.
Disorderly Conduct
Officers responded to a dispute between co-workers at the True North Shell station on Jan. 9. The argument, which began over an employee arriving late, escalated to include family members. A 43-year-old Solon man was arrested after attempting to punch an employee and struggling with officers. He was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Obstructing Official Business.
Public Indecency
A 30-year-old woman reported an incident at the Liberty Hills Apartments fitness center on Jan. 10. She stated a man was touching himself in a sexual manner while staring at her during her workout. The incident was reported to management, and officers are currently investigating.
