MACEDONIA, Ohio – Macedonia police and firefighters were kept busy this week, responding to a vehicle fire that closed a major roadway, a theft in progress at a local retailer, and a domestic disturbance involving property damage.

Car Fire Shuts Down SR 82

Macedonia units were dispatched at 5:40 p.m. Jan. 9 to the area of Fairlane Drive and SR 82 for a vehicle fire, according to a Macedonia Police call-for-service report.

Dispatchers received word that a white Honda Sonata was fully engulfed in flames, though fortunately, no one was inside the vehicle at the time. Due to the intensity of the fire and the location, SR 82 was completely shut down while crews worked the scene.

By 5:47 p.m., firefighters had water on the fire, and the blaze was reported extinguished by 5:55 p.m. A local towing company was called to remove the charred remains of the vehicle.

The incident left more than just a damaged car behind; police reported that the heat caused damage to the roadway, requiring a notification to the service department for emergency patching. The road was eventually reopened around 6:26 p.m. In a helpful gesture following the chaos, an officer provided a courtesy ride to Dunkin for an individual involved in the incident.

Shoplifting Arrest at Home Depot

On Jan. 7 at 1:33 p.m., Macedonia officers responded to a theft in progress at the Home Depot on Macedonia Commons Boulevard.

According to police reports, a suspect fled the store with stolen merchandise after being confronted by loss prevention staff. The suspect reportedly fled in a silver Ford sedan with a temporary tag. Officers quickly located the vehicle at a nearby red light and conducted a traffic stop, taking the driver into custody without resistance.

Store staff alleged the suspect entered the store with an empty tool box filled with trash, swapped it for a new DeWalt tool, and then attempted a fraudulent return. When asked for identification, he reportedly walked out with the tools without paying.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up the stolen tools along with suspected drug paraphernalia, including glass pipes, a metal pick, and a burnt spoon. The suspect was booked into the Macedonia Jail and charged with:

  • Theft
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Late-Night Disturbance on White Spruce Drive

Macedonia police were called to a residence on White Spruce Drive just after 2 a.m. Jan. 7 for a domestic disturbance. The homeowner, who was out of town at the time, reported via a home camera system that his daughter was breaking items inside the house.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the daughter’s mother, who was dog-sitting at the home. She explained that an argument between the daughter and a boyfriend had escalated after the boyfriend left. The mother reported that the daughter kicked a wall, causing damage to the drywall, and threw a vape pen that struck the mother in the head.

The mother declined medical attention, and police noted there was no ongoing physical altercation when they arrived. The homeowner requested that his daughter be removed from the property. Officers documented the damage and provided the daughter with a ride to a nearby GetGo, where she was later picked up by her boyfriend.
