Solon Police Blotter: Drunken Crash With Kids, $5,500 Gas Card Heist, And Taco Bell Terror

SOLON, Ohio – The Solon Police Department handled a series of high-stakes incidents this past week, including a dangerous crash involving children, a massive credit card fraud case, and a felony weapons arrest.

Aggravated Menacing
On Jan. 21 at approximately 11:34 a.m., officers responded to the Taco Bell at 6030 Enterprise Parkway after an employee reported receiving death threats. A male caller contacted the restaurant to complain about a hair found in an 8-piece chicken meal. When the employee explained that no such meals had been sold that day, the man became irate, used a slur, and hung up. He called back shortly after and threatened to return to the restaurant to shoot people. While the suspect never appeared, police are actively investigating the threat.

Shoplifting at Sheetz
On Jan. 21 at 6:36 p.m., officers were called to the Sheetz at 5950 Cochran Road for a shoplifting in progress. Two men reportedly entered the beer cooler, grabbed ten cases of Cutwater products valued at $131, and walked out without paying. The suspects, described as two males—one in a black coat and sweatpants, the other in a red hoodie—fled eastbound on Aurora Road in a silver Mitsubishi SUV.

Domestic Violence
Officers responded to an apartment in the 32000 block of Hamilton Court on Jan. 21 at 9:39 p.m. following a dispute between two cousins. Investigators determined that a 19-year-old male had been the physical aggressor against his 15-year-old cousin, who sustained a minor injury to his arm. The 19-year-old was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence (M1).

$5,500 Fleet Card Theft
Management at Flynn Tire, 30400 Bruce Industrial Parkway, reported a significant theft of company gas cards on Jan. 23. The cards were stolen from vehicle key rings while delivery trucks were waiting to be loaded between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Jan. 22. An internal audit revealed that four cards in total were missing and had been used for over $5,500 in unauthorized charges. The investigation is ongoing.

Weapons and Physical Control
On Jan. 24 at 3:46 a.m., a resident in the 33000 block of Country View Lane reported an unknown vehicle idling in her driveway. Officers arrived to find a Jeep Cherokee running with two men sleeping inside. Open containers of alcohol and a loaded semi-automatic pistol were visible in the center console. The driver, who showed signs of heavy impairment and performed poorly on sobriety tests, was charged with Physical Control of a vehicle under the influence (M1), Weapons Under Disability (F3), Improper Handling of a Firearm (F5), and Driving Under Suspension (MM). The passenger was cited for Open Container and released.

High-BAC OVI with Children
An automatic vehicle emergency system alerted police to a crash on Solon Road at Hawthorn Parkway on Jan. 25 at 3:25 p.m. A white Toyota had slid into a pole while attempting a turn. The driver, who had his 9-year-old and 10-year-old children in the car, admitted to drinking and failed field sobriety tests. At the station, he registered a .218% blood alcohol concentration—nearly three times the legal limit. He was charged with OVI (M1), Prohibited BAC (M1), Failure to Control (MM), and Child Endangering (M1). The children were released to their mother at the scene.
