Gates Mills Police Blotter: Employment Dispute and Online Scam Reported

Jan. 17 – Employment Dispute
An officer spoke with a West Hill Drive resident regarding an issue involving a former employee and the circumstances surrounding the employee’s dismissal. The officer provided advice. No further action was taken.

Jan. 19 – Accidental 911 Call
Police responded to a 911 hang-up call from a residence in the 1700 block of Chartley Road. Officers confirmed the call was accidental.

Jan. 20 – Medical Alarm Activation
Officers were dispatched to a Hawthorne Farms residence after a medical push-button alarm was activated. Upon arrival, officers determined the activation was accidental.

Jan. 21 – Animal Welfare Check
A passing motorist reported concern about a dog outside in cold weather at a West Hill Drive home. An officer responded and received no answer at the door but observed the dog safely inside the residence. The situation was checked and found to be OK.

Jan. 23 – Online Scam Reported
A resident reported being the victim of an online bitcoin scam, with an estimated loss of approximately $150,000. According to the report, the suspect gained access to the victim’s bitcoin wallet during online communication and transferred the funds. A report was filed.

Jan. 23 – 911 Cell Hang-Up
Police received a 911 cell phone hang-up call originating from the Gilmour Ice Rink. Upon calling back, officers learned a woman was attempting to request emergency medical assistance for her mother in Mayfield Heights and had already contacted the appropriate agency directly.
