Starting a business in Akron? Here are the resources you need.
AKRON, Ohio – Valentine’s Day is approaching, and Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro is inviting residents to find a different kind of lifelong partner. The Summit County Animal Control facility has launched the “Fur-ever My Valentine” adoption promotion, aimed at connecting shelter dogs with loving families during the month of February. This initiative highlights the joy of pet ownership while addressing the ongoing need for animal adoptions within the community.
Beginning Tuesday, February 3, and running through Monday, March 2, adoption costs for dogs have been significantly reduced to $28, a steep discount from the regular $94 fee. Each adopted animal comes fully prepared for their new life, as the cost includes microchipping, bloodwork, vaccinations, flea treatments, and spay or neuter services. Additionally, the $28 fee covers a 2026 Summit County Dog License, ensuring that new owners are compliant with local regulations from day one.
Residents interested in meeting the adoptable pups can visit the facility at 250 Opportunity Parkway in Akron during standard business hours or schedule an appointment by calling 330-643-2845. For those who prefer to browse online first, photos of the available pets are updated regularly on the Summit County Animal Control Facebook page and the 24 Pet Connect website. Whether you are looking for a high-energy playmate or a quiet companion for belly scratches, the “Fur-ever My Valentine” event offers a perfect opportunity to bring a new best friend home.
