SOLON, Ohio – The Solon Police Department handled several significant fraud reports and a violent confrontation over the past week, according to the latest department records.
Counterfeit Checks Target Local Business and Resident
Detectives are investigating two separate instances of large-scale financial fraud involving forged or counterfeited checks. On Jan. 26, the owner of Ace Hardware on Melbury reported that an unauthorized check for $5,500 had been cashed in Illinois by an unknown individual. Just a few days later, on Feb. 1, a resident reported that multiple fraudulent checks were drawn against her account over a three-week period, totaling more than $33,000 in losses. In both cases, the checks appear to have been counterfeited, and the Detective Bureau is continuing to follow leads.
Parking Lot Confrontation Leads to Warning
A manager at a business on Bruce Industrial Parkway contacted police on Jan. 28 after being threatened by a former employee. The manager stated that after speaking with a current female staff member about a work matter, he was confronted in the parking lot by her boyfriend. The suspect allegedly threatened to physically harm the manager if he spoke to the woman in that manner again. While the manager declined to press charges, officers contacted the suspect and issued a formal warning for him not to return to the property.
Assault Charges Filed After Domestic Dispute
A 28-year-old Twinsburg man turned himself in to authorities on Feb. 2 following an incident at a home on Jefferson Drive. A resident reported that her ex-boyfriend forced his way into her home on Jan. 31 and physically assaulted her during a confrontation over personal property. Although the suspect initially claimed he was the victim, the prosecutor recommended charges after further investigation. The man was charged with assault and aggravated menacing, and the victim has requested a protection order.
OVI Refusal After Utility Pole Crash
Police responded to the Circle K on Aurora Road on Feb. 1 after a Ford Escape veered off the driveway and struck a sign and a utility pole. The driver, a 58-year-old Maple Heights man, reportedly admitted to being “tipsy” and was transported to a local hospital for a minor leg injury. Due to two prior OVI convictions and his refusal to provide a urine sample, he was cited for OVI with a refusal and failure to control.
