BAY VILLAGE, Ohio – The Bay Village Police Department (BVPD) managed a high volume of criminal activity and public safety calls between March 8 and March 15, 2026. The most significant incidents involved a high-risk traffic stop resulting in weapons charges and a sophisticated “Microsoft” computer scam that defrauded a local resident of $20,000. These Bay Village police reports highlight the department’s ongoing efforts to curb identity theft, impaired driving, and the illegal possession of firearms within the community.
Firearms and Extended Magazines Seized During Traffic Stop
Early in the morning on March 11, 2026, at approximately 1:00 am, BVPD officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Winsor and Bassett for a moving violation. During the interaction, officers questioned the occupants regarding the presence of weapons. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm on the driver’s person. Further inspection revealed a second firearm along with loaded extended magazines. Both the driver and the passenger, 23-year-old residents of Cleveland, were arrested and transported to the BVPD jail. The driver faces charges including Carrying Concealed Weapons, Expired Registration, Weaving, and cannabis-related conduct violations, while the passenger was charged with Carrying Concealed Weapons. Both were released on personal bond pending their appearance in Rocky River Municipal Court.
Resident Defrauded of $20,000 in Elaborate Online Scam
On March 13, 2026, a Bay Village resident reported a devastating financial loss totaling $20,000 due to an online scam. The victim stated that a pop-up appeared on his computer claiming to be from Microsoft, alleging his identity had been stolen to purchase illegal content. Following instructions from the scammers, the resident wired $20,000 to “resolve” the issue, telling his bank the funds were for medical emergencies as coached by the criminals. A second attempt to withdraw $15,000 was thwarted by a vigilant bank manager who recognized the signs of fraud. The Bay Village police reports indicate that the investigation into the source of the scam is currently ongoing.
Repeat OVI Offender Arrested Following Traffic Violation
On March 15, 2026, at 1:52 am, officers stopped a vehicle near Wolf and Forestview. The 31-year-old driver, a Bay Village resident, showed signs of impairment and failed standardized field sobriety tests. After being transported to the station, the driver refused a breath test. Due to a history of previous OVI refusals, the driver’s vehicle is now subject to immobilization. He has been charged with OVI, OVI (multiple offenses), and driving in marked lanes, with charges processed through the Rocky River Municipal Court.
