TWINSBURG, Ohio – A fatal multi-vehicle crash on I-480 resulted in one death and three injuries following a complex three-car collision near the 37-mile marker on Tuesday night. The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:17 p.m. on March 17, 2026, involved a suspected vehicle rollover and required the total closure of the eastbound lanes for emergency operations and a formal investigation by the Twinsburg Police Department.
Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-480 Under Investigation
The collision involved three vehicles, all of which sustained heavy damage. According to preliminary reports from the scene, one vehicle was traveling eastbound when it was struck, causing it to roll onto its roof. While overturned, that vehicle was struck by a second eastbound vehicle, a secondary impact that remarkably caused the overturned car to return to an upright position. One victim was ejected from their vehicle during the sequence and was located in the roadway by first responders.
Emergency Life-Saving Measures and Extrication
Upon arrival, Twinsburg Police officers immediately initiated life-saving measures, including CPR, on the individual found in the roadway. Despite these efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Twinsburg Fire crews worked to extricate two additional occupants from the vehicle involved in the rollover. In total, four individuals were evaluated by medical personnel; three of those victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment of various crash-related injuries.
Regional Mutual Aid Response in Northeast Ohio
The severity of the multi-vehicle crash on I-480 necessitated a large-scale response from several Northeast Ohio agencies. The Twinsburg Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from Hudson EMS, the Macedonia Fire Department, the Reminderville Fire Department, and the Streetsboro Fire Department. While the cause of the initial collision remains under investigation, officials have not yet determined if March weather or road conditions played a contributing factor in the tragedy.
