Northfield Village Officers Execute Felony Drug Arrest and Resolve Casino Larceny

NORTHFIELD, Ohio – Between March 18 and March 24, 2026, the Northfield Village Police Department (NVPD) addressed several criminal incidents, including a felony narcotics discovery and multiple theft investigations at the MGM Casino. Notable enforcement actions during this period involved a K9-assisted drug seizure on Chestnut Avenue and an OVI arrest following a traffic stop on Northfield Road where the driver’s blood-alcohol content was measured at nearly double the legal limit. These reports detail the department’s ongoing efforts to maintain safety within the Nordonia Hills area.

Felony Drug Possession on Chestnut Avenue

On March 18, 2026, NVPD officers initiated a traffic stop on Chestnut Avenue (SR 8 SB) for an improper turn and expired license plates. During the investigation, officers observed suspicious items in plain view, prompting a request for a K9 unit to perform a “free air sniff”. After a positive indication from the K9, a search of the vehicle uncovered methamphetamine, a scale, and a meth pipe concealed beneath the gear shifter panel. Both occupants were arrested and charged with fourth-degree felony Drug Possession.

OVI Arrest and Northfield Road Traffic Safety

Early on March 19, 2026, a patrol officer stopped a white Ram pickup near Northfield Road and Olde 8 Road for speeding and marked lanes violations. Upon contacting the driver, the officer noted signs of impairment and the odor of alcohol. Following Field Sobriety Tests, the driver was arrested and later submitted to a breath test, which recorded a .135 BAC. The driver was cited for OVI, Prohibited BAC, and Marked Lanes, with a scheduled appearance at Stow Court on May 23, 2026.

Larceny Investigations at MGM Casino

Police managed two distinct theft cases involving the MGM Casino during this week:

  • Voucher Theft: On March 20, officers investigated the theft of a voucher ticket worth $238.39. After reviewing surveillance footage and contacting the suspect, the individual agreed to return the funds. MGM management confirmed restitution was paid on March 22, and the case was closed.

  • Theft of Personal Items: On March 21, a female reported the theft of personal items that occurred earlier that evening at the casino. An investigation into this incident has been initiated.

Disturbances and Property Damage Reports

Several other incidents were documented by Northfield Village officers throughout the week:

  • Assault Charges: On March 21, officers responded to a disturbance at a business in the 10333 block of Northfield Road. Two male juveniles were subsequently charged with assault and released to their guardians.

  • Unauthorized Vehicle Use: A resident on Ledge Road reported on March 23 that his 2021 Nissan Rogue, which had been loaned to his son on March 15, had not been returned as agreed. A criminal complaint for unauthorized use of a vehicle was filed.

  • Criminal Mischief: On March 24, a business on Northfield Road reported property damage after a customer jumped a curb and struck a fixed structure in the walk-up serving area.
