GATES MILLS, Ohio – The Gates Mills Police reports for early March 2026 highlight a significant theft investigation involving luxury timepieces valued at $100,000, alongside reports of identity fraud and various safety calls. Local authorities documented these incidents across the village, including a potential passport scam and missing property at Gilmour Academy, ensuring that all criminal and safety concerns were officially recorded for further investigation.

High-Value Jewelry Theft on Battles Road

On March 5, a resident of Battles Road contacted the Gates Mills Police Department to report the disappearance of three luxury watches. The complainant stated that the items, which have a combined estimated value of $100,000, were last seen in January prior to a vacation in Florida. The resident suspects the theft may have occurred at one of three different hotel locations in Miami where they stayed during the trip. Officers collected a formal statement and a report was filed to assist with the ongoing investigation into the missing assets.

Identity Theft and Passport Fraud Investigation

A resident of Sherman Road reported a complex case of potential identity theft on March 4. The complainant discovered the issue while attempting to renew her passport, only to be informed by the State Department that she was ineligible. Records indicated the passport had already been renewed a few years prior without her knowledge. The resident believes an unknown individual opened a fraudulent passport in her name. A formal report was filed to document the Gates Mills Police reports on identity crimes and to assist federal authorities.

Upon the arrival of responding officers, the individual changed his mind and declined further assistance. Additionally, on March 5, police monitored a vehicle repossession on Old Mill Road, and on March 6, a student at Gilmour Academy reported a laptop that had been missing or stolen since mid-February.
